SUPERFRONT, architecture gallery and project space in Bed-Stuy Brooklyn, is accepting submissions for SUPERFRONT’s second annual expo of experimental design. The first expo, “Design Expo: Cash + Carry” in February 2008, focused on multi-disciplinary design reflecting contemporary urban culture. This year the theme “PLANET BROOKLYN” addresses the international and local aspects of design culture. From the ecologically-minded principles of local production-consumption to the globalization of visual culture, the theme invites participants from all design fields. The design work does not have to originate in Brooklyn, but should address the local situation at some scale. Furniture, housewares, prototypes, publications, graphic design, and other design works are welcome. In addition, EXPO 2009: PLANET BROOKLYN invites research presentations of conceptual or large scale work, including research in physical materials, virtual environments, architecture, urban design and preservation. Six places for mounted presentations are available (one-sided standard posterboard 22” x 28”) for the presentation of research.
SUPERFRONT EXPO 2009: PLANET BROOKLYN will take place Saturday and Sunday of the Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk weekend, June 6th and 7th, from 1pm to 6pm. Refreshments will be served and the event will be open to the public. 20% of EXPO 2009 revenues will be donated to SUPERFRONT, for ongoing operations and programming.
To submit, please send a 1 paragraph statement about your work and attached images (a maximum of 1MB) to email@example.com by May 8th. Individual invitations will be sent to accepted participants May 10th. Upon selection, a $25 reservation fee will be due by May 15th.
